This new bakery near Ocean beach nourishes hungry surfers with huge cinnamon buns, spread with caramel and drenched in butter; over size rounds of homey sour dough bread with crunchy crust and a soft, even crumb; and big bacon, lettuce and tomato sandwiches on slabs of that fresh sour dough filled with enough sweet-cured bacon to maintain proper balance. Tiny alfahores, delicate buttery sandwich cookies filled with caramel almost seem out of character. Neighborhood patrons take their Blue Bottle Coffee and biscuit breakfast sandwiches outside to the wide wooden benches of a parklet in front of the bakery, where there are metal bowls of water for dogs, tiny chairs for toddlers and a beach community vibe. Inside, the look is all driftwood and do- it-yourself kitchen, counters and display case. Devil’s Teeth bakery’s diverse and friendly clientele reflects its outer Sunset neighborhood, one of the few places in the city where families can afford to live.
